Humber College: Corporate and Online Learning
About the Client
Humber College Institute of Technology & Advanced Learning is one of Canada’s leading educational institutions. Its programs combine a solid academic foundation with practical, hands-on learning. Serving more than 24,000 full-time and 56,000 part-time students, Humber offers a wide-range of career-focused opportunities for students to personalize their educational path.
Humber retained Perceptible to re-architect, style and build their Corporate/main, Online Learning and their Continuing Education websites. In addition Perceptible built their Centre for Teaching and Learning site in Perceptible's ZaboutMe Intelligent Engagement platform.
- IA and UI development and validation research Online style guide and technical manual
- Quality control of all project elements in adherence to Humber’s QA standards.
- Configure and install Drupal 7 and full build out of sites in responsive mode
- Collaboration with College IT services to connect to existing services (e.g. Banner)
- Content migration strategy and training
The primary requirement for each of these site builds was to develop sites that would be attractive to prospective students, parents and the Humber community. All builds had to be “mobile-first” and be contemporary in look and feel with lots of images and video. Each site also had to be designed for full AODA compliance.
An extensive set of mobile-first templates were developed for all site builds. A highly detailed online Style Guide was developed for each site that helped content teams easily update their site's content. Content was migrated from existing sites when required. Prior to any content migration, all content was reviewed and adapted on each site.
The Drupal 7 configuration for the Humber College sites allowed for manageable integration with a number of Humber's major enterprise back-end systems. Each site build also included a potential migration path to Drupal 8.
The enterprise scale of these site builds plus the sheer number of content contributors required to maintain content on each site required a detailed training manual and training sessions for each site.
Each site received a full AODA audit prior to release and all were released with full AODA compliance. As with all our major builds we support the site for 90 days post-launch.
After the launch of Humber’s new corporate website, other Humber schools and departments began to adopt the styling and structure developed by Perceptible. Perceptible has worked with the Humber Centre for Teaching and Learning, Humber Continuing Education, Humber Communique and Humber IT on previous and new site developments.
